The background story...
Following a spell working for BBC television on a local and national level, Steve Cowell took on the role of Graphics Editor at the Yorkshire Evening Press. During his time at the Press he developed an award-winning information graphics style - and promoted the use of technology in newspaper production. Steve's graphics team were the first to use desktop colour scanning in the newspaper, and was responsible for its first publication produced entirely on a computer - something that is taken for granted nowadays.
Steve left the York title to take on the role of design editor for the Westminster Press newspaper group - and was responsible for designing and writing for many titles franchised throughout the group, including its flagship Travellers' Guide - which he later became joint editor of.
On leaving the newspaper group, Steve launched SC&A. And, together with former WP colleague Alex Johnson, continued to write, design and supply a number of tabloid magazine titles. Steve and Alex still offer a joint writing and design service for magazines and newsletters.
Since then (more than 10 years ago) Steve continues to work with many of the associates he encountered during the newspaper years - as well as expanding these partnerships to photographers, web designers, PR agencies and writers. And now SC&A offers a far broader service than ever before.
